February 25, 2020: Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films presents ‘The Lovers’ is a short film that portrays the careful analysis of misuse of dowry act that still persists in smaller cities. Written & directed by Preeti Singh the movie is produced by jewellery designer turned producer – Vandana Mordani and stars Anuraag Malhan, Shweta Prasad Basu and Zarina Wahab in pivotal roles.

The story of ‘The Lovers’ revolves around a married couple where the life of husband changed when his wife files a case against him under the act 498A, domestic violence. The story unfolds & conveys how lack of communication between parents & children destroys many lives in a marriage.

Commenting on the film, actress Shweta Prasad Basu, said, “It’s important that everyone in our society enjoy equal rights & freedom. The lovers highlights that while dowry law can help many women it can also be turned against men who are not well versed with their rights. I am happy that I became a part of this movie which deals with this critical subject in a thoughtful manner. Sharing her thoughts on first film, Producer and Creative Producer Vandana Mordani said, “The Lovers showcases an important message to our society. On the face of it, the law that appears to be a blessing for people in abusive or violent relationships, can also be misused by some and keep men deprived of their rights. The movie also narrates that the lack of communication between children & parents can lead to dangerous situations & consequences which we have tried to portray in the film.
