Medium sized businesses in India have attracted a lot of attention in the past two years. With initiatives like Startup India and Digital India gaining ground, the number of companies in this segment have increased and will continue to grow in future. As these companies traverse this high growth trajectory, they are also picking up smart human resource (HR) practices to ensure that they are talent ready to meet the business demands. A key trend seen emerging is the adoption of cloud and mobile-based HR technology, which is shaping the HR experience in these companies.

If we look at traditional organizations, they took some time in adopting mature HR practices and then looked out for automation. The governing principle in these decisions was shadowed with the general belief that HR technology makes sense only when you have reached a critical mass in terms of the number of employees and locations. As these new age companies experience a high growth phase, they are no longer taking the traditional route. The presence of cloud based HR solutions, which are cheaper and easier to implement, and have a known ease of use, has further resulted in new age companies adopting HR technology faster.

Ayan Majumdar, GM-HR, Pearson India, which has recently adopted cloud and mobile based HR Technologies, shared, “Those days are gone when the workforce could wait for years before receiving a top class HR experience. Today, if one is not providing a smart HR experience right from the beginning, they might lose out on key talent. The need to provide technology through mobile devices is imperative as we strive to provide a first class HR service, therefore allowing businesses to focus on what they do best – bring in ‘the business’. Cloud and mobile-based HR technology is the bare minimum that one needs to provide to their workforce.”

According to Pankaj Bansal, Co-Founder and CEO, PeopleStrong,”The interesting thing about these new age companies is they do not want to reinvent the wheel as far as HR practices are concerned. They believe that a lot of companies have gone through similar growth journeys, and have no qualms in implementing tried and tested solutions. We have seenthat the first implementation cycles have in fact been as fast as two weeks because of this”. PeopleStrong is a leading HR technology solution provider and has implemented HR technology solutions in medium sized businesses at the rate of two implementations per week in the past six months.
