Pic10urgaon, 20th August 2017: For promoting awareness about mental health and well being, Colombia Asia Hospital, Gurgaon conducted a three-day workshop on Rorschach Inkblot Test. Given the growing trend of urbanization and the resultant stress and changes in emotional well being, the workshop assumes greater significance.

The Rorschach Inkblot Test is conducted to understand the feelings, thought patterns and emotional behavior of a person, especially among patients of Schizophrenia.

“Due to their underlying mental state, Schizophrenic patients are reluctant to describe their thinking process openly, which makes it difficult to understand them. Rorschach Inkblot Test has been used by many psychiatrists to understand these people. The three day workshop that we conducted was well received by participants,” said DrAshish Mittal, Consultant, Psychiatrist, Columbia Asia Hospital, Gurgaon.

“Significant indications and hints were observed to understand better the possible outlook of patients suffering from Schizophrenia, how they perceive their environment, their problem solving skills, and how they deal with life experiences,” said Dr. Shweta Sharma, Clinical Psychologist, Columbia Asia Hospital, Gurgaon. “This was first in a series of workshops that we have planned on Rorschach Inkblot Test in our hospital along with training and certification. The second workshop on this subject will be conducted in December 2017”, said Dr Shweta Sharma. The workshop was well attended and the response the hospital got was overwhelming, she added.

The training sessions were conducted by the well respected Dr. Dwarka Pershad, Retired Additional Professor of Clinical Psychology, PGIMER, with the support of other senior doctors and organizing members at Columbia Asia Hospital-Gurgaon.

Rorschach Inkblot Test is a projective psychological test consisting of 10 inkblots printed on cards (five in black and white, five in colour). While using this testing method, perceptions of inkblots as expressed by the patient are recorded and then analyzed using psychological interpretation, complex algorithms or both.

“The sessions and discussions have been really fruitful. Through the workshop, participants gained important insights in understanding perceptual-cognitive aspects, strengths and weakness, as well as personality traits and types of individuals,” said Dr Ashish Mittal.
