Mumbai, July 25th, 2025: A 30-year-old woman from Ghatkopar has fallen victim to a housing scam involving a fake Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) flat deal. The victim lost ₹1 lakh to the accused, identified as Neeta Saraikar, who allegedly lured her into a fraudulent transaction under the pretense of securing a government flat.

According to police reports, the victim was approached by Saraikar with an offer for an MHADA flat at an attractive rate. Claiming to have official connections and influence within MHADA, Saraikar allegedly promised to expedite the allocation process if the woman paid an advance amount.

Trusting her assurances, the woman transferred ₹1 lakh as a deposit for the supposed flat. However, after the payment was made, Saraikar reportedly became evasive and failed to provide any concrete documentation or updates on the promised flat.

Realizing she had been duped, the victim approached the police and filed a formal complaint. Based on her statement, an FIR has been registered against Neeta Saraikar under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code about cheating and fraud.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the case, and efforts are underway to locate and question the accused. Police have also cautioned the public to remain vigilant and to verify the authenticity of any housing offers, especially those claiming connections to government housing schemes like MHADA.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the increasing number of real estate scams in urban areas and highlights the importance of dealing only with verified sources when it comes to property transactions.
