The Rotary Club Of Bombay Airport Announce Plans To Install 188 AED Machines In Mumbai

To Raise Awareness About Cardiac Arrest and Resuscitation Organised “Dil Ki Batein”a Musical Program

 

MUMBAI, February 26, 2024 – The Rotary Club of Bombay Airport organised a unique musical extravaganza, “Dil ki Batein” where a group of medical consultants named “Tuning Folks,” shared their passion for singing for charity and entertained the audience to create awareness on cardiac arrest. This program was aimed to organise funds and install 188 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in public places like 88-Railway Stations And 100-Metro Stations.

Early CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) by bystanders in public places have been increasingly emphasized as crucial tools in saving lives during sudden cardiac arrests. These portable devices are designed to deliver an electric shock to the heart when someone is experiencing a life-threatening arrhythmia. By providing immediate intervention before emergency medical services arrive, AEDs significantly increase the chances of survival for individuals experiencing cardiac arrest.

 

Public awareness campaigns and initiatives have led to a growing number of AED installations in various public spaces such as airports, shopping malls, schools, and sports facilities. The accessibility and ease of use of these devices have empowered bystanders to act during emergencies, helping bridge the gap between the onset of cardiac arrest and professional medical assistance. As a result, more lives are being saved each day due to timely CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and deployment of AEDs in critical situations.

 

Dr. Akshay Mehta, Cardiologist & President of Rotary Club of Bombay Airport said “studies have shown that when AEDs are used within the first few minutes following cardiac arrest, they can dramatically improve outcomes by restoring normal heart rhythm. Efforts to expand access to AEDs in public places continue to be championed by healthcare professionals and advocacy groups worldwide. With ongoing advancements in technology and increased community engagement, the widespread availability and utilization of AEDs serve as a beacon of hope for enhancing survival rates among those affected by sudden cardiac events.”

 

Dr Mehta Added, “AEDs are life-saving devices designed to provide an electric shock to restart the heart in the event of a cardiac arrest. The Rotary Club has already donated about 10 AEDs, which are now operational, and seeks to extend this initiative to a larger scale. The goal is to provide AEDs to an additional 188 locations, like 88 suburban railway stations and 100 metro stations in Mumbai.”
