The Anita Borg Institute India Grants 200 Scholarships in Support of Women Students from Computing and IT Backgrounds

200 female under-graduate, post-graduate and PhD students from computing and IT backgrounds will get an opportunity to learn and grow their careers at the largest technical conference for women in India, the annual Grace Hopper Celebration India 2016

Bengaluru, 3 November, 2016: The Anita Borg Institute (ABI), a non-profit organization focused on the advancement of women in computing and technology, today announced 200 scholarships awarded to under-graduate, post-graduate and PhD female students from Computing and IT backgrounds across India. The scholarships provide these students an opportunity to attend the Grace Hopper Celebration India (GHCI) 2016 conference from 7-9, December, 2016 in Bangalore. GHCI 2016 is produced by the Anita Borg Institute and presented in partnership with ACM India.

The scholarships cover expenses associated with attending the GHCI conference, including the registration fee, meals and lodging for each recipient. Travel (by train or bus) is reimbursed up to a maximum of Rs 2,000 for each recipient.

The GHCI 2016 Scholars were chosen by a committee comprising of experienced professionals from the industry and academia. The committee reviews and scores each application on academic achievement, potential in the field, quality of essay and financial need.

There is a definite need to increase the percentage of women in the technical workforce and build a larger pipeline for the future. ABI India offers the GHCI scholarships to inspire, connect and guide young talented women from technical backgrounds, providing them with an opportunity to build rewarding careers in technology. At GHCI, the scholarship winners have the opportunity to meet experienced and highly-accomplished professionals for career guidance and get inspired by role models.

Scholarship recipients also get access to GHCI’s Student Career Fair (for women students only), where bright and dynamic students can meet top recruiters from global technology companies.
