Rajkumar Hirani Shares the Story Behind His First OTT Series, Pritam and Pedro

Famous filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani is bringing his first web series, Pritam and Pedro. It’s a fun series that also marks the acting debut of his son, Veer Hirani. The recently released trailer has received an excellent response from audiences. The series promises a mix of comedy, cybercrime, mystery, and plenty of drama. It also stars Arshad Warsi, Vikrant Massey, Boman Irani, and Mona Singh.

Speaking at the trailer launch ahead of the release, Hirani revealed that the idea for Pritam and Pedro came to him during the COVID-19 lockdown. The Mumbai Cyber Cell had approached him to make a film on cybercrime, a subject no one was exploring at the time. That conversation eventually evolved into a new story, and Pritam and Pedro was born.

Hirani said, “During COVID, I got a call from the head of the Mumbai Cyber Cell. They wanted to make a film on cybercrime, but no one was working on it. I told them to share the idea with me and I could work on it from home. Around the same time, I met Amit Dubey, who gave me a book of his short stories with several ideas that could work as short films.”

He added, “While reading those stories, I felt one of the ideas could be expanded into a larger narrative. A few days later, on a Zoom call, I told them I didn’t want to adapt any of those stories. Instead, I wanted to create something completely new. They gave me the freedom to make it my way, and that’s how the journey of Pritam and Pedro began.”

Directed by Avinash Arun and created and produced by Rajkumar Hirani, this is his first OTT series. Pritam and Pedro will stream exclusively on JioHotstar from July 3.
