Airlink, a disaster response organisation that links airlines with pre-qualified non-profit bodies, honoured the Cathay Pacific Group for its work to support relief efforts in Nepal following the earthquake in April.
The recognition came on 3 November at the Airline Economics conference in Hong Kong. Director Corporate Affairs James Tong picked up the award on behalf of the Cathay Group.
Through the generosity of Cathay, Dragonair and other airlines, Airlink enabled air lift for 80 non-profit relief workers and three search-and-rescue dogs responding to the country-wide destruction caused by the 7.8 magnitude quake that hit Nepal in April 2015.
Rajesh Menon, Regional Sales & Marketing Manager-South Asia says:
“The Nepal earthquake was one of the most terrifying disasters which shook the lives of thousands, leaving many injured and homeless. As a socially and environmentally responsible airline, we always step forward to assist those affected by major natural disasters.
We are fortunate to have received overwhelming contributions from all our staff in India and South Asia to support the initiatives of UNICEF, who are playing a proactive role in restoring normalcy to the people of Nepal. From India, we will continue to support our head office in all such initiatives that contribute to a larger cause, aiming towards betterment of the society.
An honour like this is a motivation for us to continue our efforts in this direction.”
