IDA launches Smoke Free Home Campaign

Mumbai, 07th October 2016: 8th edition of the Annual World Dental Show (WDS), the biggest three day dental event of the year, an initiative of Indian Dental Association (IDA) was inaugurated today at MMRDA Ground, Bandra Kurla Complex amidst a glittering function. The programme was attended by Dr. Patrick Hescot, FDI President, Dr. T. N. Tilakraj, President, IDA, Dr. Ashok Dhoble, Hon. Secretary General, IDA, Dr. L. Krishna Prasad, Chairman WDS amongst others.

World Dental Show (WDS) was inaugurated by Dr. Patrick Hescot, FDI President, who was happy to be part of the mini global market on display. WDS is supplementing and supporitng Government of India’s efforts of “Make in India” campaign in the dental healthcare sector by giving an opportunity to foreign manufactures to showcase their product as well as seek out partnership for local production.

This year WDS is having more than 350 stalls out of which around 35 stalls are by international exhibitors from South Korea, Taiwan, Israel, Czech Republic , Russia , Germany , Malaysia and China. Major companies participating in WDS are Colgate, GSK , Kavo Kerr , Dentsply , Unilever , Noble Biocare etc.

Further Smoke Free Home campaign under the Tobacco Intervention Initiative (TII) was launched, which will target schools across the country. Dentists will visit schools during the year to explain and create awareness among children and their parents on the ill effects of second hand smoke. The aim of the campaign is to make a Smoke-Free environment for children, reduce the risk of respiratory disease, minimize the health consequences of passive smoking. The target group will be children within 5 to 15 years of age. Short lectures, presentations etc will be conducted. IDA will collect pledges from parents to quit tobacco and create smoke free environment for their children. The motto of the campaign is “For a healthy tomorrow Quit today!!”.

The event also acts as a meeting point uniting all relevant groups related to the world of dentistry from across the world.
