Odia theatre festival Natya Parva introduces visitors to culture’s traditions, tastes at NCUI auditorium

natyaparva (1)New Delhi : IPROCH, Institute for Promotion and Research on Odisha’s culture and heritage organized the successful 3 day theatre festival at NCUI auditorium here at Delhi. The festival witnessed the presence of renowned artists from the Odia diaspora.

With the support from Hon’ble Union Tribal Affairs Minister, Jual Oram and Mr. Arun, Secretary in the ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises the 3 day theatre festival showcased plays and films on social issues such as development and gender. Plays like the adaptation of William Shakespeare’ s iconic tragedy “Macbeth”, “Marubhumi”- a play on the displacement on the sidelines of development, “Murchhana” – A play which tries to explore the roots and evolvement of the music of Odisha popularly known as Odissi Music today and “Amari Bhagwan”- A story on confusion of God and Men.

In a bid to encourage and motivate the young talents, IPROCH also screened the documentary of a young film maker Anwesha Brahma tiled “Curse or Apathy- The Healthcare Economics of Kalahandi district”. It also showcased social play “SHHH”- a story of a man how it changes after a bear cub was found in his hut and “Shyamamani Devi” – Biographical documentary on the legendary Odissi singer”.

Celebrating the Paika Rebellion of Odisha, Odia Samaj in association with IPROCH staged the enthralling dance drama “Odia Paika”. IPROCH had the honor to have the famous director and writer Chittaranjan Tripathy with his play “Gunno Bai” which are must appreciated and loved by the audience.

The festival exhibited the exclusive Odia delicacies acclaimed to be very flavorfull, shop for unique handicrafts and textiles from Odisha, famous for its silk weaves.

Announcing the festival, Sangram Dhar, Secretary, IPROCH says, “Natyaparva is a unique festival celebrating the theatre of Odisha and may other facets of it. Odisha is a land that harbours a thriving theatre culture unique in itself. The festival is loved by not only the people of Odisha but it will also fascinate the non-Odishans living in the city.”
