New Delhi: A press conference was held at the Press Club of India in New Delhi regarding the FIR registered against Dr. Joji John, Joint Secretary (East Zone) of the Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP). The complainant and her lawyers addressed the media, raising several issues concerning the allegations and the investigation process.
According to FIR No. 0241, the complainant, a woman physiotherapist, has accused Dr. Joji John under Sections 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The complaint alleges that what began as professional guidance and career support gradually developed into a personal and emotional relationship.
As per the FIR, the two first connected through Facebook Messenger in August 2025. The complainant alleges that Dr. Joji John presented himself as a senior professional who could provide career guidance, professional networking opportunities and support within the physiotherapy fraternity. Over time, she claims, the relationship moved beyond professional boundaries and she began to trust him.
The complaint further alleges that promises related to career growth, professional recognition, opportunities and personal commitments played a role in developing that trust.
According to the FIR, the accused arranged the complainant’s travel to Delhi in March 2026 , following which the two met there. The complainant alleges that personal and sexual relations were established during this period.
During the press conference, the complainant stated that certain important aspects of her complaint were not included in the FIR despite being communicated to the investigating officer. She also alleged that she was made to consume something without her knowledge and claimed that this information had been shared with the police.
The complainant told the media that the entire episode seriously impacted her mental health and she remained in depression for a long period. She said she now feels mentally stronger and is seeking a fair investigation and appropriate action in the matter.
The complainant’s Legal Advisor Hiten Mehta, and her lawyers Advocate Kruti Bhavsar and Advocate Eshna Kumar of Bhavsar and Mehta & Co , briefed the media about the allegations mentioned in the FIR and the complaint. They stated that the complainant has been cooperating with the investigation but has not yet been provided with a copy of the charge sheet. They further said that all aspects of the case should be investigated fairly and that necessary documents related to the investigation should be made available to the complainant.
Copies of the FIR and other documents related to the complaint were also shared with members of the media during the press conference. The investigation is currently ongoing.
