The new superhero in town – Akshay Oberoi
It has been established that Akshay Oberoi plays a romantically inclined Software Engineer opposite Radhika Apte’s harder-edged PR agent in Pia Sukanya’s comic thriller Bombairiya, but in a film that boasts of multiple storylines, hidden mysteries, and embarrassing secrets, visitors on set were forced to ask Akshay, ‘Dude, what is with the hat?’
Said Akshay,” My character, Abhishek is affectionately called Topiman by his Mom and teased by his Dad because he goes all out to help people and the hat is like his cape. Only today, he don’t know that the damsel in distress doesn’t require his help. Or thinks she doesn’t! So Radhika’s character keeps brushing off my character but ironically my character Abhishek doesn’t get the credit he deserves for having-a-go and trying to bring a criminal to book. It’s true my character sometimes ( theek hai most times ) makes matters worse with his civic-minded intervention but he is approaching things with a clean heart and the confidence of knowing that deep down inside he is..Topiman; a crime fighter who will stand up and be counted when others merely stand up for a better view. ‘There is always a dark force out there and the best of them can sometimes masquerade as crime-fighters and hook genuine people like Abhishek into their plan.’
Question is can Abhishek stand up to Meghna and take on the bad guys, without his hat, since he loses it along the way? Will he also be able to pierce Meghna’s allergic reaction to him whenever he turns up to assist her?.
Added Akshay with a mischievous smile,”I’m pretty sure I’m going to get through to her in the second schedule which we are filming after the rains. We’ll have to see what happens”
Meanwhile, Akshay is just happy characters like Abhishek exist. ‘I know of two real examples and I’m sure we all do. Genuine guys really stand out today because it’s a cynical world out there and someone like Meghna does need to be rescued – from her cynicism! And with my Topi in my hand, I’m just the guy to do that.” ended Akshay with a brash smile.
