Hyderabad, 29August, 2016: The Anita Borg Institute (ABI), a non-profit organization focused on the advancement of women in computing and technology, today launched ABI.Hyderabad. This initiative is part of ABI’s program the ABI.Local, a global network of local communities that connects women technologists around the world. ABI.Local chapters help women in technology get connected, find new opportunities and meet their career goals.
The ABI.Hyderabad launch event today received an overwhelming response and was attended by over 300 technical women from Hyderabad and the neighbouring areas. The event was hosted and held at the Microsoft campus in Hyderabad. Attendees included women in technology professionals, entrepreneurs and students. The event focused on advancing a gender diverse technology workforce and also witnessed strong participation from senior leaders from corporates, the government and entrepreneur community.
ABI.Local communities are currently active in many cities around the world, including Amsterdam, Boston, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, New Delhi, Pune, Seattle, Silicon Valley and Tokyo, to name just a few.
The centre of all discussions and sessions during the day was about women pursuing long-term careers and moving up the technical ladder. Attendees got the opportunity to attend a thought provoking keynote session and panel discussion on ‘Transformations Through Digital India’. All leaders were of the opinion that India can witness a significant digital transformation only if women are given the opportunity to contribute and play a vital role. Many went on to say that it was almost no longer an option and gender inclusion needs to happen at all levels. Keeping up with these growing numbers and aspirations of women technologists, ABI is increasing its presence with the ABI.Locals . The interest and investments of the government and corporates, have made Hyderabad a global tech hub. There is a highly talented pool of women right here, in the city today. We could not miss out on that any longer. We hope the attendees of today’s ABI.Hyderabad event have taken this unique opportunity to make some quality connections and are inspired to build a rewarding career in technology.”
ABI’s programs focus on advancing the careers of women in technology. After the success of their annual flagship conference the Grace Hopper Celebration India that has been held since 2010, ABI looks forward to reaching out to more women technologists across India through platforms such as the ABI.Hyderabad.
