The Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) has announced admissions to its 12-month Master of Science in Health Sciences (Management) programme. Offered in partnership with Northumbria University, UK, the MSc programme is comprehensive in approach and developed to match the emerging needs of healthcare industry globally. MDIS is Singapore’s oldest not-for-profit professional institute for lifelong learning, and certified by the country’s Council for Private Education since 2010 for its business and quality excellence.
According to Dr. Himani Swami, Head, School of Health and Life Sciences, MDIS, “The MSc in Health Sciences (Management) programme attracts many because the fast-changing healthcare industry offers tremendous opportunities to experienced practitioners and fresh graduates interested in pursuing health care management as a career. The programme is aimed at establishing standards for meticulous critical enquiry and enables students to develop respect for evidence and discourse and the capacity to initiate and sustain change, in the field of health care management.”
Upon successful completion of four modules and dissertation, students can explore career opportunities in a broad spectrum of healthcare set-ups including, clinics and hospitals, medical laboratories, research and development facilities, educational institutions, health insurance organisations, healthcare associations, nursing homes, public health departments and rehabilitation centres.
Upcoming intakes for this programme are available in June and October 2015. MDIS also offers Merit Scholarships (International), awarded to qualified students on the basis of academic merit, leadership potential, special talents or other personal characteristics. These scholarships are valued at S$4,000 for Master’s programmes.
To offer international students an experience of living, learning and playing in an interactive and conducive environment, the MDIS Residences@Stirling is a 15-storey hostel located within campus, with 782 air-conditioned rooms, 14 suites, a lecture theatre and cafeteria. The eco-friendly hostel can accommodate some 1,700 students and is the very first hostel in Singapore to be awarded the Green Mark Gold Plus Award.
The S$35 million MDIS Campus in Stirling Road occupies a 3-hectare land area and offers 71 classrooms, 5 computer laboratories, 4 life sciences laboratories, 3 engineering laboratory and workshops, a hospitality training centre, a mass communications studio, as well as a fashion studio. The campus also has an amphitheatre to house art performances and other events, as well as fully-equipped sports facilities such as a gymnasium and badminton courts. Furthermore, MDIS is also certified to ISO-9001:2008 standards, and has a life science laboratory certified to OHSAS 18001:2007 standards.
