Legendary comic artiste Umer Shareef has passed away at the age of 66

The Bakra Qishton Pe fame Pakistani comedian and actor Umer Sharif gained prominence in 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s. Pakistani comedian Umer Sharif passed away in Germany on Saturday. He was 66. The comedian was suffering from several ailments and was admitted to a hospital in Germany when his health deteriorated while he was being taken to the US for treatment.
Earlier in September, Sharif requested the Pakistani government to help him get treatment abroad in a video recorded for a local news outlet. He had been suffering from an undisclosed illness.
Sharif, who looked visibly sick, said in the video: “I have been told by my doctors that, for better treatment, I will have to go abroad. I believe I helped Imran Khan, as much as I could, with Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital.”
“Doctors are telling me I can get the best treatment in America. I, Umer Sharif, am now addressing the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan Sahab. Whenever you have called me for anything, I have always been there for you, which is why I believe that you will also be there for me.”

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s spokesperson Shahbaz Gill later told his followers that Khan’s office had gotten in touch with Sharif to facilitate his request.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said that “Saddened to learn of Umar Sharif’s passing. I had the good fortune of touring with him to raise funds for SKMT. He was one of our great entertainers and will be missed. My prayers & condolences go to his family”.

Mr Sharif was born in 1955 in Karachi, he started his career at the age of 14 with stand-up comedy. He gained prominence in Pakistan in the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s and worked as a director, producer, actor, and television personality.

He received the National Award for Best Director and ‘Best Actor’ in 1992 for the superhit film Mr 420. He was also the host of the hugely popular Geo TV show called The Shareef Show.
