‘Jashn-e-Hindustan’ showcases culture and unity at Gateway of India

Urdu Poetry, Ghazals, and Sufi Music mark Republic Day celebrations

Mumbai 26th January 2025: The historic Gateway of India became a cultural gathering point on Republic Day, hosting ‘Jashn-e-Hindustan,’ a special evening dedicated to Urdu poetry, ghazals, and Sufi music. Organized by the Maharashtra Government’s Minority Development Department in association with the Maharashtra State Urdu Sahitya Academy, the event celebrated the nation’s rich cultural traditions and linguistic heritage.

The program began at 5:30 PM, with Shri Ruchesh Jaiwanshi, IAS, Secretary of the Minority Development Department, as the chief guest. In his address, he said, “Urdu is not just a language; it is a reflection of our history and traditions. Events like these preserve its beauty and bring communities closer.”

Shri Dattatray Bharane, Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare, Minority Development, and Aukaf, shared his message through a video, expressing his support and best wishes for the event.

The evening featured poetry recitations by renowned poets such as Monika Singh, Shahid Latif, Siraj Solapuri, Dr. Kamar Surur Farooqui, and Naim Faraz. Their verses resonated deeply with the audience. Ghazal singer Siraj Ahmed Khan’s melodious renditions, along with the soulful Sufi music by Salman Ali, added to the event’s emotional depth.

The program’s flow was thoughtfully managed by Dr. Qasim Imam, whose presence as the host added warmth and engagement to the evening.

The event was also streamed live on digital platforms, reaching audiences across India and abroad. At the Gateway of India, attendees expressed their appreciation with applause and heartfelt words, making the evening a memorable celebration.

‘Jashn-e-Hindustan’ was more than a cultural program, it was a heartfelt tribute to Urdu literature and its role in India’s artistic heritage. The Maharashtra Government’s Minority Development Department and the Maharashtra State Urdu Sahitya Academy thanked the dignitaries, artists, and audiences for their participation and support, which made the event a great success.
