A hair transplant occurs when a plastic or dermatological surgeon transplants hair to a bald part of the head. Hair is typically moved from the rear or side of the head to the front or top of the head by the surgeon. Hair transplants are usually performed under local anesthetic in a doctor’s office.
In this article, we will majorly focus on FUE hair transplant which is an advanced, minimally invasive & scarless method of hair transplant. We will also look into the differences between FUE & FUT. We will also discuss the hair transplant cost in India.
WHAT ARE FUE HAIR TRANSPLANTS AND HOW DO THEY WORK?
Hair from the back and sides of the head are transplanted to a balding area such as a receding hairline or a thin crown in FUE transplant surgery. These hairs will grow for 6-12 months, restoring hair where it has previously been gone. The end result is organically grown hair that has been revitalized.
The procedure is carried out with the patient under local anesthetic. Once the anesthesia starts working, the hair transplant surgeon will start removing hair follicles.
The excised hair follicles are then reinserted into the scalp using sub-millimeter procedures, puncturing the locations where the transplanted hair follicles would be placed. Our doctors must evaluate hair depth, angulation, direction, and density in the following step of the operation to achieve the most natural and realistic look possible.
The donor area, from where the hair was removed, heals with dot-like scars that are smaller than a millimeter in diameter. Once the hair has grown to a grade 1 or 2, the FUE scars are hidden.
The freshly implanted hair will shed over the first 1-3 months before growing back in 4-12 months when the full results will be seen.
FUE hair transplants should endure for at least 20 years and possibly a lifetime because the hair is obtained from a location that is not affected by the underlying hair loss process.
FUE vs. FUT: WHICH IS BETTER?
The two most common hair transplant techniques are FUE (Follicular Unit Excision) and FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation).
The most traditional method of hair transplant surgery, FUT (Follicular Unit Strip Surgery), involves the removal of a strip of tissue from the back of the head (also known as the donor area) containing healthy hair follicles. This strip of tissue is then cut into grafts, each of which contains one or more hair follicles. These grafts are then implanted into the areas of hair loss that have been affected.
Hair transplant surgery with FUT is still considered a feasible option. The question that arises is if it is the most effective hair transplanting method. Time to heal, visible scarring, operation completion time, and desired hairdo post-surgical are just a few of the reasons for this.
FUT transplants can create a visible scar on the back of the head and take longer to heal (14 days+) than FUE transplants. Once the procedure is performed, the patient is limited to longer hairstyles in order to conceal the surgical scar.
Instead of removing a strip of tissue from the back of the head containing hair follicles, hair follicles are removed individually using specialized surgical tools in FUE.
FUE surgery is the most common type of hair transplant surgery currently for a variety of reasons, including less visible scars, shorter hairstyles, and a faster recovery time (5-7 days) than FUT.
Both FUE and FUT operations have advantages and disadvantages. Due to a number of considerations discussed above, FUE hair transplant surgery is swiftly becoming the most common type of hair transplant surgery.
WHAT ARE THE LONG-TERM PROSPECTS?
Hair grows back in the transplanted areas of the scalp in most persons who have had a hair transplant.
The density of the new hair depends on the following factors: scalp laxity, or how loose your scalp skin is number of follicles in the transplanted zone hair caliber or quality hair curl
You may continue to lose hair in non-treated areas of your scalp if you don’t take medication (such as minoxidil or finasteride) or undergo low-level laser therapy.
It’s crucial to talk to your surgeon about the expected outcome and set realistic goals.
