Several social and religious organizations from Mumbai city and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) actively participated.
Mumbai, February 21, 2025: As a responsible corporate, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, successfully organized a multi-faith organ donation awareness event, bringing together people from diverse religious backgrounds to advocate for the life-saving importance of organ donation. The event featured thought-provoking skits performed by various religious and community groups, each delivering a strong message about the impact and necessity of organ donation.
The initiative was part of Wockhardt Hospitals’ commitment to healthcare advocacy and social responsibility. By using the power of storytelling and community engagement, the event aimed to dispel myths, address concerns, and inspire individuals to register as organ donors. With the participation of multiple religious and social communities, the message of organ donation is expected to reach and influence over 50,000 people through word-of-mouth awareness, creating a ripple effect in society.

The event was graced by the presence of Dr. S. K. Mathur, President, Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC) as chief guest. Also, Ms. Sujata Ashtekar, Consultant, IEC, and Ms. Urmila Mahajan, Chief Coordinator, ZTCC, Mumbai, who served as judges for the skit performances. Their insights and expertise helped emphasize the importance of community involvement in promoting organ donation.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Virendra Chauhan, Centre Head, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, Said “This event was a true reflection of unity and compassion, emphasizing that organ donation transcends religious and cultural differences. Through these performances, we were able to engage the community in a meaningful dialogue about saving lives.”
Dr. Chandan Chaudhary, Consultant Nephrology at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, also highlighted the importance of early intervention and awareness, stating:
“Kidney diseases are on the rise, and many patients end up requiring transplants due to late diagnosis. Educating communities about early detection and the life-saving potential of organ donation can significantly improve patient outcomes.”
Highlighting the significance of kidney transplants, Dr. Nikhil Bhasin, Consultant Nephrologist and Renal Transplant Physician, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, stated: “There are thousands of patients suffering from kidney failure who depend on organ donors for a second chance at life. Increasing awareness through such initiatives is crucial in bridging the gap between organ availability and demand.”
Emphasizing the need for more donors, Dr. Swapnil Sharma, Consultant Liver Transplant, HPB, and GI Surgeon at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, added: “Liver transplants can be life-saving, yet many patients face long waiting periods due to a lack of available donors. Through community-led awareness programs like this, we hope to encourage more people to pledge their organs and make a lasting impact.”

Events like these help educate individuals about the importance of organ donation while addressing misconceptions that often prevent people from taking this life-saving step.”

The thought-provoking skits effectively conveyed the need for organ donation, debunked myths, and highlighted the life-changing impact it has on patients and their families.
