Students of SOI academy score high at the 3rd International competition ‘Jumeirah Sounds’ in Dubai

Mumbai, 11^th November 2019: The Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI), based at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai, is India’s first and only professional orchestra. It was founded in 2006 by NCPA Chairman Khushroo N Suntook and internationally-renowned violin virtuoso Marat Bisengaliev, who serves as the Orchestra’s Music Director. In the decade since its inception, the Orchestra has performed around India and internationally.

The SOI features a growing number of Indian players, representing the finest home-grown talent, which provides a solid foundation for the future of orchestral playing in the country. The NCPA continues to excel as a centre of music, developing international standards of professionalism among its musicians, thereby addressing the aspirations of young musicians and music-loving audiences throughout India. It also runs a Music Academy to train and groom talent from a young age. Some of the students are as young as 6 years old! They are taught in a conservatory style, where they each play an instrument as well as the piano, in addition to learning music theory and history.

Recently, the students of this academy delivered a splendid performance at the 3^rd International competition ‘Jumeirah Sounds’ held in Dubai. In the Violin solo category, Sangeeta Jokhakar won the gold medal and Sumer Murthy bagged the silver medal. In addition to this, Tanvi Chakravarty and Sangeeta Jokhakar stood at the second position in the Chamber music category and were also presented with silver medals for their outstanding performances.

These young talents are definitely promising and inspiring!
