Exclusive interview of our special correspondent with Mr. Kaivan Shah – President, Aarya24KT

Interviewer: When did this company start, and how many years has it been in operation? Was your father involved in the business as well?
Answer: Our family background is deeply rooted in the diamond industry, where we specialized in diamond manufacturing. This involved sourcing rough diamonds from dealers, meticulously polishing them, and exporting the finished gems. This had been our core business for many years. However, the global recession of 2007-2008 had a significant impact on major players and industries, including ours.
During this period of economic downturn, we found ourselves with ample free time. While attending the Hong Kong jewellery show, we discovered a Thailand-based company that was creating exquisite designs using pure 24 karat gold foil. This innovative approach captivated us, and we saw a unique opportunity to diversify and innovate within the jewellery sector.
Inspired by this encounter, we began by outsourcing our production, starting with fewer than 10 designs. Over time, we transitioned to setting up our own complete manufacturing operations. Today, Aarya 24kt boasts an impressive array of over 1300 designs and products, reflecting our commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and innovation.

Interviewer: So, you got your products made from the Thai company initially?
Answer: Yes, we approached the Thai company, spoke to them, and decided to test the market with some of their products. We brought a few pieces, including a Ganesha frame, a deck of playing cards, and a gold rose, all made from 24 karat gold foil. The response was tremendous, and this encouraged us to delve deeper into the technology and production process. We found out that the gold foil technology, specifically producing 0.5 microns of pure 24 karat gold sheets, was only available in Taiwan. We imported these sheets and started creating unique products, combining gold foil with base materials like silicon and resin.

Interviewer: What was your age when you started this venture?
Answer: I was 20 years old when we began this venture. Today, I am 37, so this was around 17 years ago. I was quite young and eager to explore new opportunities.
Interviewer: Can you tell us more about the evolution of your products and technology from 2010 to now?
Answer: Absolutely. Just like the evolution of smartphones, our gold foil technology has advanced significantly over the years. Initially, we started with basic products, but now we have moved to what we call the 5th generation of gold foil technology. The gold foil still comes from Taiwan, as it is the only place that can produce the required quality. Over the years, we have improved our manufacturing processes, incorporating advanced techniques like laser cutting and CAD designs, to create intricate and unique products that cannot be easily replicated.

Interviewer: How do you maintain quality and integrity in your brand?
Answer: Quality and integrity are paramount. We have a separate audit team that regularly visits showrooms to ensure brand standards are maintained. This includes checking displays, marketing materials, and offers. We also conduct regular training sessions for staff to ensure they understand and convey the brand’s value and uniqueness. Building and maintaining strong relationships with our retailers is crucial for our success.

Interviewer: Given your plans for growth, have you considered going public?
Answer: Currently, we are a private limited company, but we recognize the potential benefits of going public. Our focus is on building a strong distribution network and creating value for our brand. With a presence in over 1400 top jewellers across the country, we are well-positioned for future growth and expansion.
