New Delhi, 18 Indian nationals stranded in Benghazi, Libya, have been successfully repatriated through the concerted efforts of the Indian Embassy in Libya. The individuals had been stuck in the country for several weeks due to security concerns.

Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), confirmed the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “The Embassy of India in Libya facilitated the return of 18 Indian nationals from Benghazi, Libya.” He further noted that the Indian Embassy worked closely with local Libyan authorities to ensure the safety of the workers and assisted them in acquiring necessary travel documents and authorizations.

The stranded individuals had traveled to Libya with the promise of employment opportunities but later found themselves in distressing circumstances. The MEA assured that their cases were being closely monitored, and the Embassy maintained constant contact to ensure a smooth repatriation process. Notably, three individuals from the same group had already returned to India earlier in October.

Expressing gratitude towards Libyan authorities for their swift response and cooperation, Jaiswal stated, “Thank the Libyan authorities for their support and cooperation.” He also reaffirmed the Indian government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of all Indian nationals abroad.
