World Dental Show, the Biggest Dental Event of the Year inaugurated today

World Dental Show (WDS), the biggest dental event of the year, an initiative of Indian Dental Association (IDA) was inaugurated today at MMRDA Ground, Bandra Kurla Complex amidst a glittering function. The programme was attended by Dr. L. K. Prasad, Chairman WDS, Dr. Alias Thomas, President IDA, Dr. Ashok Dhoble, Hon. Secretary General, IDA , Dr. T. C. Wong, Immediate Past President FDI, Dr. Suresh Barpande, Joint Director, Medical Education and Research, Dr. Kim Chuan How, FDI Councillor amongst others.

During the inauguration ceremony tributes were paid to late Dr. R. Ahmed, Father of Indian Dentistry, whose 125th Birth Anniversary is being celebrated by IDA. As part of the commemoration his immediate family was present on the ocassion. The event also highlighted on the past achievements and honours of Dr. R. Ahmed and how he brought radical changes to the dental education in India.

Addressing the gathering Dr. Ashok Dhoble, Hon. Secretary General, IDA said,” I am delighted to announce here that IDA has launched several oral health movement for creating awareness among the people. Today at WDS we are launchingSmoke-Free Home campaign under Tobacco Intervention Initiative (TII), which highlights the hidden dangers of second-hand smoke in Indian homes, private vehicles and in public places. Second-hand smoke is particularly harmful to children as they breathe rapidly and have less developed lungs which put them at a greater risk of fatal health conditions & deaths. The campaign aims to encourage smoke-free homes across India while encouraging smokers to quit smoking for the sake of their loved ones.”  

 Several other intiatives like Dental Cart – an online shopping portal for the Dentists, National Dental AccreditationProgramme amongst other were launched at WDS.
