THE SHIPPING CORPORATION OF INDIA CELEBERATES DIAMOND JUBILEE

Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) launched its Diamond Jubilee Year celebrations on its Foundation Day on 2nd October, 2020.  Honourable Minister of State for Shipping (Independent Charge) and Chemical & Fertilizers, Shri. Mansukh L Mandaviya and Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, Dr Sanjeev Ranjan graced the event through video conferencing. The event was attended online by Ministry officials, Directorate General of Shipping and officials, members of the press, retired employees.

The phygital event showcased a blend of live and recorded cultural programs and an award distribution ceremony. The prizes were presented digitally by Hon’ble Minister and Secretary(Shipping). The star event of the evening was a live performance by seafarers from vessel SCI Sabarmati. This technological bridge from shore to vessels was the high point of the event as this was done for the first time in SCI. The event was historic as in addition to shore employees, for the first time the seafarers on board ships connected for the event. This brings a major change where seafarers the key workers are carried along in shore activities as well.

The Hon’ble Minister lighted the lamp, unveiled the logo and virtually launched the SCI Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. He also launched the SCI Corporate Magazine – SCI EXPLORER and awarded the winners of various competitions as part of the celebrations.

In his speech, the Minister praised the concept of skill clubs in SCI which was announced by CMD, SCI, Mrs. H K. Joshi, in her speech. He said that up-skilling was very crucial in these times. He also praised the financial performance of SCI and said that as the company’s Foundation Day coincided with Gandhi Jayanti, it inspired the company to become Aatmanirbhar. He wished the company and it’s employees to achieve higher goals in the coming years.
