Student Scholarship Applications for the Grace Hopper Celebration India (GHCI) 2016 Conference are Open

Bangalore, 07 June, 2016: The Anita Borg Institute (ABI), a non-profit organization focused on the advancement of women in computing and technology, today opened the student scholarship applications (for women students) for its flagship conference in India, the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing India (GHCI) 2016. The scholarships will be awarded to deserving female under-graduate, post-graduate and PhD students in computing and IT, to attend the GHCI 2016 conference from 7-9, December, 2016 in Bangalore. GHCI 2016 is produced by the Anita Borg Institute and presented in partnership with ACM India.

The GHCI Scholarship program aims to increase the participation of women students from science and technical backgrounds across India. At GHCI students get a chance to meet other women in technology, connect directly with innovative organizations, learn from peers and experts and get quality career advice. During GHCI 2015, 170 scholarships were awarded to women students in technology.

The student scholarships cover the expenses for attending the GHCI conference including the registration fee, meals and lodging for every scholarship recipient. Travel (by train or bus) is reimbursed up to a maximum of Rs 2,000 per student. The deadline for applying for a scholarship is 29 July, 2016. “It is important for women to build a career identity and then work towards having a career of their choice,” said Geetha Kannan, Managing Director, Anita Borg Institute India. “Our primary goal of offering these scholarships, is to give young and dynamic students the exposure that will inspire and get them excited about creating a successful career in technology. GHCI provides learning opportunities through workshops and sessions and networking with some of the best minds in the industry.”

Another main attraction for students attending the conference is the Student Career Fair. It gives women students the chance to meet top recruiters from global technology companies and explore opportunities for internship and full-time jobs.
