The company has been following the mantra of REIMAGINE. RECREATE. RESTORE. In line with this year’s theme, #GenerationRestoration; Ramky Enviro has announced an ambitious sustainable recycling and resource recovery initiative to accelerate India’s journey towards a low-carbon future.

June 4 2021:  Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited (REEL) announces a nation-wide network of End of Life vehicle recycling facilities’ on World Environment Day. The company’s ambitious plan aligns with this year’s World Environment Day theme to revive and protect our ecosystems. Ramky Enviro (REEL) is one of Asia`s largest and most integrated player in Waste Management and Recycling space. As an environmental business, the company’s Sustainability Program is deeply integrated into its core business activities and is in line with key Sustainable Development Goals like Climate Action, Sustainable Communities and Responsible Consumption.

The company has been actively working to reimagine, recreate and restore natural resources through multiple initiatives, on its journey towards a net negative carbon footprint.

Ramky Enviro’s new initiative – a nationwide network of world class ELV facilities support this year’s theme #GenerationRestoration.

By 2025, India will have over two crore vehicles nearing the End of their Lives*. These, along with other unfit vehicles, if not recycled and managed sustainably, can cause significant pollution and environmental damage, says a report by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE).

At the same time, India has an opportunity to move towards sustainable mobility at scale, if environmental factors and life-cycle considerations are integrated into India’s mobility policies. The recent government policies around vehicle scrappage and ELV management are a significant step in this direction.

Over the past 15–20 years, a significant amount of research and development has enhanced the recycling rate of end-of-life vehicles, including enhancing dismantling techniques and improving remanufacturing operations. Recycling of automotive materials can have a very positive sustainability impact via conservation of materials, lower energy use, and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

REEL’s nation-wide network of world-class ELV facilities can accelerate fleet renewal based on cleaner fuels, newer technologies and zero-emission alternatives such as Electric Vehicles; this protects the environment and public health on one hand and ensure sustainable resource and material recovery on the other. These facilities will deploy automated technologies towards Dismantling, Depolluting & Shredding to maximise recycling and resource recovery.

In the first phase, REEL ELV Recycling facilities are being developed at locations near Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Adityapur and Chennai. In the next phase, the network will expand to over 25 locations across India. REEL will also partner with leading Automotive companies in both the passenger and the commercial vehicles segments as part of this initiative.
