Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Ananth Kumar today assured farmers across the country that the NDA Government will maintain the price of urea in the next four years.

Speaking at Manthan Aaj Tak, held here in the light of the Union Government rounding off its first year in power, Kumar said his Government “maintained the price of urea in the last year and it will continue.”

“I want to use this platform to tell all our farmers that the Government will not raise the price of urea in the next four years.” He also said all efforts will be made to plug loopholes in the distribution of urea.  “Black marketing of urea will end. The Modi Government has taken one important step in this regard. It is to bring in coated urea (meant) only for farmers’ use. Industrialists won’t be able to use this urea,” the minister added.

The Minister also said Modi government would soon call international bids to restart all closed fertiliser plants in the country. ”We are preparing a plan to reopen all fertiliser plants and all this will be done in a transparent manner. New plants would lead to increase in availability of fertiliser that would lead to more farm productivity and progress,” the minister added.

Kumar put forth three points as achievements of the Narendra Modi Government’s first year in office. “First point is helping the poor of our country to open a bank account. Nobody thought it was possible before this Government. It has become a part of the Guinness World Record. As many as 15 crore people have made use of this scheme. Yet another pointer is giving life insurance to people in just Rs. 330 rupees annually, accdent insurance in just Rs. 12 annually. In just last 15 days, seven crore people have applied for this scheme. We brought in the initiative of social security. The third point is the Prime Minister himself creating a better image of India worldwide.”
