Mussoorie, 4th August, 2016: Mussoorie International School celebrated its 32nd Founder’s Day today. MIS, as it is popularly known, has built a global reputation for itself as a premier all-girls school with thousands of bright, well educated and groomed students passing through their portals.

Chief Guest was the occasion was Captain Abhimanyu Singh Sindhu, Honorable Minister for Finance and Revenue, Haryana and Guest of Honour included Mr. Shantanu Prakash, Chairman & Managing Director, Educomp Solutions Ltd and Dr. ShyamaChona, Chairperson of MIS.

In keeping with tradition, the celebrations opened with an Alumnae Homecoming organized on the eve of the Founder’s Day – an evening where Alumni are invited to come back to their Alma Mater and share this moment of pride with the school. This platform also gives the current students an opportunity to bond and connect with alumnae and learn from their experiences at school.

The evening’s programmes continued with a school exhibition, held in the academic block, featuring creative works by students from grades 1-12. This event was open to all and was based on the theme of Cultural Diversity which showcased different traditions of various states of India. This was followed by an Orchestra performance by “MIS symphony” which includes 380 students performing in unison. They played 28 instruments in total which included Harmonium, Synthesizer, Xylophone, Congo, Guitar, Drums, Bongo drums, Tabla, Sarangi, Violin, Sitar, Dafli, Flute and Jayadeepbela. One of the highlight of the evening was the water ballad – a water journey of “aqualillies” which was put up by MIStars in the form of a dazzling swimming synchronization performance.

The Founder’s Day began with the traditional Havan. The Havan has remained an integral part of the Founder’s Day celebrations since the school began. The mantras chanted during the Havan are from the Geeta Upanishads, which is a part of the sixth book of Mahabharata. Geeta Upanishad explains, protects and nurtures the ultimate principles and helps a person to lead a true life. Parents, Students, Alumni and staff all joined in the ceremonies.

The cultural program started with an awe-inspiring Vedic Chanting performance. This was followed by a Hindi Dance drama ‘Samvedna’, which reflects on what we as humans have done towards our earth as a beautiful gift of nature. This was followed by children singing group fusion song. The song presented is one such effort, which talks of nature and our responsibility towards it. It was sung in three languages that are English, Hindi and French- as the words go “The earth is my home, I promise to keep it healthy and beautiful”.
