Event Unites Cancer Survivors, Clinicians, Caregivers, and Support Groups at St. Francis Assisi School Ground

Mumbai, February 4, 2025: HCG Cancer Centre Borivali marked World Cancer Day with a first-of-its-kind Pickleball Tournament at St. Francis Assisi School Ground, bringing together cancer champions, clinicians, caregivers, and support groups. The event was designed around the global theme, “United by Unique,” celebrating the individual journeys, strength, and resilience of cancer survivors while fostering a sense of unity and community through sport.

The tournament featured doubles matches where cancer champions and their families played side by side with the doctors and caregivers from HCG. Pickleball, with its focus on teamwork and accessibility, provided an ideal platform to promote both physical health and emotional well-being. In addition to the tournament, attendees participated in wellness workshops focusing on the benefits of staying active after cancer treatment, with dedicated relaxation zones to support mental health. Physical activity plays a vital role in maintaining overall well-being, helping survivors rebuild confidence, and fostering emotional resilience post-treatment. The theme “United by Unique” resonates deeply, as each survivor’s journey is different, yet they come together as one strong community.

Mr. George Alex, Regional Business Head – Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, HCG Healthcare, shared, “At HCG Cancer Centre Borivali, we believe that healing extends beyond medical care. It’s about fostering strength, confidence, and a sense of belonging. This tournament was a way to bring cancer survivors, caregivers, and medical professionals together in a spirit of camaraderie and encouragement. On World Cancer Day, we reaffirm our commitment to standing by our cancer champions, celebrating their journeys, and inspiring hope for the future.”

Dr. Indoo Ammbulkar, HOD Medical Oncology, HCG Cancer Centre – Borivali, added, “Cancer treatment is not just about fighting the disease but also about rebuilding life after it. Engaging in physical activities like pickleball helps survivors regain their strength, improve their well-being, and reconnect with a supportive community. This event was a wonderful reminder that survivorship is about resilience, joy, and looking forward to a healthier future. At HCG Cancer Centre Borivali, we remain dedicated to empowering our patients every step of the way.”
