Mumbai: Senior music journalist, author, photographer and Founder of MusicUnplugged.in Verus Ferreira presents what he describes as India’s first Music Concert Photography Exhibition, featuring a selection of photographs captured at music concerts over more than a decade.

The exhibition which is his second, will be held from October 16 to 31, 2026, at the Free Press Gallery, Free Press House, Nariman Point, Mumbai. In November 2024, Ferreira had displayed his concert photos at the Bombay Art Society, Bandra. It was inaugurated by the Godfather of Indian jazz, Louiz Banks.

A music journalist for over three decades, Ferreira’s journey into concert photography grew naturally from his work covering musicians and live performances. His collection captures artists in moments of energy, emotion and spontaneity, while also reflecting the atmosphere and excitement of a live concert.

Unlike wildlife, portrait, fashion, adventure, architecture, nature, sports and food, among many kinds of photography, Ferreira states that music photography has never ever been given its due importance, despite the fact that there are so many Indian as well as International artists visiting India and performing in the country over the years.

Spending time with some awesome music artists, listening to their great music, travelling to different places to watch them and the best of all, capturing the artists for posterity on your camera, can give you a totally different high. For Verus Ferreira, music photography is a dream career, stemming from his work as a music journalist.

After many hours spent in the music space and going through thousands of images and short listing the final lot, he finally presents his second Music Concert Photography exhibition this weekend.  “I am really happy to hold my second exhibition on music concert photography, which is probably the first ever in the country. I have also added two new images to the lot of 60 frames”.

The exhibition features photographs of international artists including Bryan Adams, The Vengaboys, Steve Vai, Michael Learns to Rock, Joss Stone, Megadeth and Slash of Guns N’ Roses, alongside Indian artistes such as Anoushka Shankar, Colonial Cousins, Usha Uthup, Louiz Banks, Zakir Hussain, Lucky Ali, Rahul Sharma, Trilok Gurtu and Zubin Mehta, among others.

“My photographs tell a story that people can connect with. They can bring back memories of a concert, an artist or a particular moment, while also capturing the personality of the performer,” says Ferreira.

For Ferreira, printing the photographs is an important part of the creative process.“In an era when photographic art is mostly consumed digitally and people spend only seconds looking at an image, I believe photographs deserve to be seen and appreciated in person. A concert photograph can bring back a memory and start a conversation.”

Over the years, his concert photographs have appeared in various publications. In March 2024, Smart Photography devoted an eight-page showcase to his concert photography, followed by a photo feature in The Sunday Free Press Journal.

Ferreira is also the author of The Great Music Quiz Book and The Great Rock Music Quiz Book, the latter which features Slash of Guns N’ Roses on its cover.

Ferreira presently writes for the Free Press Journal newspaper.

Supported by the Free Press Journal, the Free Press Gallery is a 3,000 sq. ft. space overlooking the Arabian Sea and dedicated to showcasing creative work. “I am also very excited to talk about my love for concert photography which is not taken very seriously. I look forward to meeting you all and talking about music and music photography. Don’t forget to leave your comments in the visitors book”,
