Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival Announces Dates for its 9th Edition

Mumbai, 21st October 2024: Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival (BVFF) has announced the highly anticipated 9th edition which is scheduled to take place from December 5th to December 8th, 2024, at Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio in Kahilipara, Guwahati. This year, the festival is set to captivate audiences with a vibrant selection of films, showcasing powerful stories from the Northeast region and beyond.

 

With more than 220 film entries submitted this year, the festival will present a vibrant selection of films across both competitive and non-competitive sections, featuring categories such as feature films, documentaries, and short films. The non-competitive category will also highlight a diverse range of cinematic works that deserve recognition and appreciation. Both categories aim to inspire, engage, and shine a light on talented filmmakers while encouraging exchanging ideas and meaningful conversation within the industry.

 

Over the years, BVFF has screened over 280+ films, and received more than 1,200+ competition entries, with a strong focus on promoting the work of young filmmakers, over 800 of whom have been trained through the festival’s initiatives. Additionally, the last edition in 2023 drew an impressive footfall of 25,000+ attendees, highlighting the festival’s growing impact and popularity in the region.

This year’s festival will continue its tradition of fostering a supportive community for filmmakers, cinephiles, and industry professionals, providing them with a platform to connect, collaborate, and inspire. The 9th edition of BVFF promises to be an unmissable event for film enthusiasts and creators alike.

 

Last year’s edition of BVFF saw an incredible showcase of Indian cinema, with numerous filmmakers presenting their work to a captivated audience. Noteworthy highlights included a series of award-winning films, interactive Q&A sessions with filmmakers, and panel discussions featuring industry experts who delved into the trends and opportunities in regional filmmaking.

 

In the last edition, Valli won the prestigious Best Director award for Feature Film, awarded to Manoj Shinde. Nathalia Syam’s critically acclaimed film Footprints on Water, starring Adil

Hussain, received the Best Feature Film award. The Best Documentary Award was given to Mask Art of Majuli, directed by Utpal Borpujari. Furthermore, the BVFF Short Film Competition, which celebrates emerging filmmakers from the region, was won by Ronald Hussain for his short film Neela Joota (Sneakers). The festival also featured masterclasses led by renowned figures, including Prakash Jha and Krishna D.K (known for his work on Family Man, Fazri, Guns & Gulabs, and more), as well as the Amazon Prime – Prime Pitch, all of which saw a huge turnout.
