Bombay Times Fashion Week 2024: a Grand Fusion of Elegance and Stardom

Bombay Times Fashion Week continued to captivate the fashion world with its grand showcase at the Grand Hyatt Mumbai. Across three spectacular days, the event presented collections that blended tradition, innovation, and bold creativity, solidifying its place as a premier platform for Indian and global designers to showcase their artistic visions.

 

Day 1 opened with an energetic start as Vishal Kapoor’s Phulwari collection took the Panache Runway by storm and was complemented by a collaboration with Venus Jewels by Nikita Bhimsaria. Mannara Chopra and Jason Shah stole the spotlight as showstoppers, while Hunar Hale and Gouri Tonnk added charm from the front row. Umang Signature Bespoke by Umang Mehta followed, presenting an innovative blend of classic tailoring and visionary designs. Showstoppers included Karan Singh Chhabra, Vivek Keshari, Shiv Thakare, Vivek Dahiya, Vatsal Sheth, and Tanuj Virwani, creating a dynamic atmosphere. Salina Samal’s Royaleum collection then graced the stage, showcasing Indian heritage with modern elegance. Showstoppers Tara Sutaria and Taha Shah Badussha embodied the luxurious spirit of the collection, with intricate prints and lavish details stunning the audience. The day closed with Ayaan and Riyaz Gangji of Libas unveiling their bridal collection Dawn of Harmony, with Soundarya Sharma embodying its delicate whites, blacks, and muted golds.

 

Day 2 continued the fashion brilliance, starting with Nikki Rangoonwala’s Aureate Plumage under Hyaat Couture. Showstopper Shefali Alvares Rashid showcased luxurious designs inspired by bird plumage. Abhivyakti Jaiswal’s AHI Clothing followed, with Naila Grewal as showstopper, introducing a blend of luxurious velvets and Mughal-inspired grandeur. Varsha Khaware’s V. Bridal presented Aiano Ka Shringar, a wedding collection that showcased a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, with Sana Maqbool as the radiant showstopper. Ruhaniyat, presented by Sheetal Batra under Edmont, honored Kashmir’s rich heritage with intricate tilla art, and Shibani Akhtar as the showstopper. Jewelry designer Sunita Gupta’s Azreena collection followed, with showstoppers Surbhi Chandna and Kunal Jaisingh, featuring exquisite rubies, emeralds, and diamonds. The evening continued with Vidhi Wadhwani’s Odyssey collection, with Radhika Madan embodying its innovative spirit. Pooja Rajpal Jaggi’s Ibtida celebrated feminine strength with Krystle D’Souza as the showstopper, followed by Sonani Jewels’ ASRA: The Enchanted Collection, where Palak Tiwari dazzled in a butterfly-adorned gown. The night concluded with MeghaShrey and Pankaj S Heritage’s The Timeless Heirlooms of India, a tribute to India’s rich embroidery traditions and a celebration of sustainability through MeghaShrey NGO.

 

On Day 3, the fashion extravaganza opened with Vastra By Mala Munde, featuring showstoppers Priyanka Chahar Chowdhary and Manish Rana. Mala Munde’s collection, BANDHAN, serves as a heartfelt tribute to her late brother Jeevan, embodying the emotional bond they shared, beautifully reflected in every stitch, especially in the new saree adorned with pearls—a poignant celebration of Rakhi.

Following that, Premya by Manishii took the stage with showstopper Aamna Sharif. This collection honors Indian handlooms and embroidery while catering to the modern conscious consumer, showcasing garments in ivory, black, purple, and deep emerald that can be styled for any season and event. Next was BeSpokewala by HimaliRaj, where Ankita Lokhande and Vicky Jain graced the runway. Their collection, Roohaniyat, captures a spiritual connection between two souls, featuring handwoven motifs like mandalas and celestial patterns, symbolizing eternal love. The show continued with Sonali Jain, featuring showstopper Sunny Leone. Her collection, Dhoom Dhadaka Wedding, draws inspiration from the grandeur of Indian weddings, with designs that reflect the joy and celebration of various wedding functions, from Haldi to Reception. Following this was Anusha Reddy, with showstopper Mrunal Thakur. The collection, Aves, captures the grace and freedom of birds, featuring flowing silhouettes in soft hues inspired by feathers and the sky, blending modern design with nature’s timeless elegance. Rocky Star, with show opener Vardhan Puri and showstopper Karan Singh Grover, presented a collection that embodies the freedom of contemporary women. The Fall Winter 2024/25 line combines avant-garde and timeless designs, showcasing silhouettes that enhance femininity, enriched by sequin embroidery and a baroque art influence.

Lastly, the grand finale was led by Gaurang Shah, with showstopper Dia Mirza. His collection, Rangraas, celebrates India’s textile heritage through exquisite handwoven saris and intricate embroidery, accompanied by a captivating Hindustani classical musical performance. Each piece tells a story, showcasing the artistry of Indian craftsmanship, while Kishandas & Co. provided stunning jewelry to complement the collection, creating a breathtaking conclusion to Bombay Times Fashion Week 2024.
